AUSA President Meets Board to Discuss Army Museum

The Carlisle Barracks and Cumberland Valley Board of Director’s hosted a 13 August 2015 meeting with AUSA President and recently appointed Chairman of the Army Historical Foundation (AHF) Board of Directors, Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, USA, Ret., to discuss AUSA’s involment in and support for the planned National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA).  The meeting was held at the Army Heritage and Education Center.

In response to a Chapter request, Gen. Sullivan, and former AHF President and recently appointed AHF Board of Directors Vice Chairman, Gen. William W. Hartzog, USA, Ret., visited with interested Chapter members to provide additional information about AUSA’s support for the NMUSA and its affiliation with the AHF.

As briefed by LTG (Ret.) Jerry Sinn, AUSA Vice President for Finance and Administration, the AUSA and the AHF formed an affiliation starting in October 2014.  The AUSA and AHF affiliation was based upon a shared vision of accelerating the construction of the NMUSA.  Current plans call for the NMUSA to be built on an 84.8 acre track of land on Fort Belvoir, Virgina, and to be completed in 2019.

The AUSA and AHF affiliation was established based on mutual agreement that both organizations had mutual interests, consistent with the goals and purposes of each organization, to accelerate the construction of the NMUSA.  Accordingly, the AHF made organizational changes that gave AUSA control and governance of AHF to guide the financing, construction, and completion of the NMUSA.
